James B. Irwin Apollo 15 1971

I was working for a photo copier company as a salesman around 1988/89. I had stopped by an office to pitch my photo copier when I saw an Apollo space suite inside a glass case. I asked the secretary who that belonged to and she told me it was Colonel James B. Irwin's from Apollo 15! Well I was excited, having been a big fan of the missions as a kid. I went over and examined the suit for some time.

As I walked back towards the secretary's desk, I noticed that Colonel Irwin's door was ajar. I looked at the secretary and she just nodded. It was Colonel Jim Irwin!

Well to shorten the story, he cheerfully invited me in and mentioned that this was his "Flight for Life Foundation". After a nice conversation, he pulled out an 8x10 photo of himself saluting and signed it, "Aim high" Jim Irwin! I was so excited that I could barely talk, but I thanked him and bid him good day. It was really wonderful visiting with him. I enjoyed his company as he appeared to enjoyed mine. I think that I was with him about 35 minutes!

RIP Colonel Irwin

PS: I have not scanned my signed copy so I will just upload a generic copy for your review. I have my signed copy. Do you know what the value of this may be?

Signed Photo of James B. Irwin

That's a great story. Meeting a moonwalker, especially unplanned, is a memorable experience.

Jim Irwin was very good about signing autographs. Some NASA pioneers got worse about it as they grew older, but Irwin wasn't one of them.

A James Irwin signed photo is worth about $250. That price will look small in years to come.
