"Going Rogue" refers to a remark from an anonymous McCain aide late in the 2008 presidential campaign. It was feared that Palin was going to break away from the McCain camp and start speaking for herself. The first signs of dissent from her was about the time that she was informed by the media that the McCain people had decided that Michigan was a lost cause. Palin said at the time, "Of course it's pretty easy to issue candid, off-script messages when there is no script to begin with". ![]() In late September, HarperCollins announced that Going Rogue would be released on November 17. The book quickly shot up to number one on the best seller's list, a month before its street date. On its first day it sold 300,000 copies; numbers like that are extremely rare, especially for non-fiction. The book was originally scheduled for a 2010 release, but the date was moved up because Pain finished it sooner than expected. It took Palin only four months to write the memoir. Harper ordered a first printing of 1.5 million. The print run was soon bumped up to 2.5 million. Palin was given an advance of $1.25 million. Later she will receive two more payments, each between $2.5 and $5 million. Palin was picked by John McCain to be his running mate, it has been next to impossible to have her sign anything. She is very friendly. Even today she would no doubt sign anything placed in front of her, but the problem is your item won't get that far. She travels with an entourage, most of the time very swiftly, and with good reason - she is mobbed everywhere she goes. Whether this will remain true, only time will tell. I do thinks she will remain very popular, regardless of her future career path. Unless you plan on attending a book signing, to get an authentic autograph right now you will probably have to purchase one. Economically, this is not the best time for that. You will save money by waiting for the book tour to end for two reasons - the frenzy will die down and there will be more books on the market. Today, signed books (with store receipts) on eBay are going for $100+. Simple signatures sell for about $25. Letters and documents go for about $50.
