The Autographs
of the Rolling Stones

When speaking of iconic, historical rock bands, the only band that gives the Beatles any competition is the Rolling Stones. This legendary band has been a stable of the music scene and culture for over forty years.

The band itself was formed in 1962 by Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards. Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts joined soon after. At the beginning, the Rolling Stones were heavily influenced by American rhythm and blues. They took their name from a Muddy Waters song called Rollin' Stone.

The Rolling Stones first made their mark in Britain, but it wasn't long before they crossed the Atlantic during the British Invasion. Since that time, they haven't done anything less than build credibility, year after year, and they have always been so so good at it that it appeared effortless.

Early songs like (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Under My Thumb, Time Is on My Side, Get Off of My Cloud, Honky Tonk Woman and Jumpin' Jack Flash are rock anthems. Even people who hate rock and roll know some of the lyrics.

The Stones discography consists of 29 studio albums, 10 live albums, 31 compilation albums, 3 extended plays and 92 singles. With almost two-hundred million albums sold worldwide it’s a fact that the Stones have secured themselves a place among history's most successful entertainment acts.

Stones concert tours are always major events. It is hard to think of the Stones ever reaching a point where they can't fill stadiums. The last, A Bigger Bang Tour, spanned two years, August 2005 and August 2007, and grossed over a half billion dollars. It was the highest grossing tour of all time.

Band members came and went. Jones and Stewart were dismissed. Mick Taylor took Jones' spot and when Taylor left Ronnie Woods came on board. Through all the changes, the Stones just kept making music and gaining fans. Microsoft even used one of their songs, Start Me Up, to introduce Windows 95.

A long running joke in the music industry is the aging of the Stones. There have been persistent rumors of a potential retirement, but this is a rumor that has been following the Stones for a very long time.

The Autographs

The autographs of the Rolling Stones are growing in value with each passing year, and that is a trend that is likely to continue. The original lineup is by far the toughest. Brian Jones left the group in 1969, and he died later that same year. Jones' signature alone is worth $300. The autographs of Jagger, Richards, Jones, Wyman and Watts on the same page is worth more than $500. Signed photos of those five are extremely rare, so rare it would be hard to predict what one would sell for.

Most collectors are OK with putting together a collection of individual autographs signed apart from the rest of the band, and then mat them with a vintage photo or album cover. Here are values for those signatures:

Mick Jagger - $75
Keith Richards - $50
Brian Jones - $300
Bill Wyman - $40
Charle Watts - $50
Mick Taylor - $25
Ronnie Wood - $25
