The Rat Pack – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. – were the coolest guys in show business. They ruled Las Vegas, Hollywood and anywhere they went. Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop were the less-famous, but still hip, members of the famous group of guys. Originally led by Humphrey Bogart, Sinatra took over when Bogart died in 1957, and the definition of “rat” was immediately elevated in the English language.

They co-starred in the original “Ocean’s 11” film in 1960, and the re-makes decades later required Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and a handful of others to equal the style and hipness of the original Danny Ocean and his band of swinging would-be robbers. They made three other movies, all entertaining, and they still stand up today. The “Rat Pack Collection” DVD set features “Ocean’s 11,” “Robin and the 7 Hoods,” and a Western, “4 For Texas.

The members of the Rat Pack were known for their style, their singing, the humor and fun that they spread. Teenagers and 20-somethings in the early 1960s studied the Rat Pack members, who dressed impeccably with their tuxedos, bow ties and neatly-folded pocket handkerchiefs, and the look was reflected in a lot of the younger rock stars of the day.

The famous posters on sale – some obviously candid shots, others set in front of the iconic Sands Hotel in Las Vegas, which they ruled – show the contagious fun the men had and are feel-good portraits. It wouldn’t hurt to stay in the spirit of the Rat Pack and hang them above a bar.

The fact that the three main members of the Rat Pack were the three-most successful singers of their era made their record albums instant successes. They are still sold – in everything from Christmas collections to Sinatra solo classics to the legendary “Rat Pack – Kings of Swing” and “Live and Swinging” album.

The Rat Pack was never an officially-organized band of singers. Their legend thrives, though, because one project easily led to another – and to books, quiz books, TV appearances and concerts – because they were just so talented – and so cool. No one could get enough of the Rat Pack.
