Patsy Montana (Ruby Blevins) isn't a name a lot of people know today, but she was a big star in her time. She was a country and western recording artist, star of western movies and a radio performer. She was a regular on Chicago's National Barn Dance radio show from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1935, she recorded "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart," which sold a million copies - she was the first female country music performer to accomplish that. She is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Patsy Montana left show business in the 1950's, coming out of retirement from time to time for special appearances, She often appeared at nostalgia festivals, featuring retired country music and western movie stars. She signed thousands of autographs at those shows.
