Otto E. Passman Signed Letter

by Ethan Townsend

I found what seems to be a personal letter to my great-grandmother about getting my grandfather moved to a noncombat zone during the Korean War because his brother had been killed. The letter was signed by Congressman Otto E. Passman of Louisiana.

Thank you for your help Bill. It amazed me when i first saw it. I have a few more from rear admirals and such during the Korean War era. The one I like the most is from my great-uncle's company commander writing to my great grandmother about how sorry he is for the death of her son.

Otto E. Passman
by: Bill

Otto E. Passman spent 30 years of his life in Congress, and he was very well regarded for his knowledge of national defense and veteran's issues. He was probably more well known to the public for his opposition to almost all foreign aid. He thought most foreign aid just served to prop up the dictators that we should be more interested in bringing down.

This letter seems to me to be more valuable as family history than anything else. Collectors of Louisiana history or military history might like it also. Routine letters signed by Passman are worth about $10, but this on might be more because of the content.
