Mrs. Roosevelt's Garden Party

by Brandi
(Corona, CA)

I have several invitations from Mrs. Roosevelt inviting Hon. Dow W Harter and his wife to the White House for a garden party. Much of the invitation and envelope are handwritten. Just wondering if there is any value on these?

Eleanor Roosevelt Letters
by: Anonymous

In regards to Mrs. Roosevelt's invitations, I have never seen any letters quite like these from Mrs. Roosevelt in any collection and they appear to be authentic. Good for you! I hope they find there way to a museum so that all may enjoy them. If not or you wish to perhaps sell one or all I would appreciate an opportunity to purchase one or all.... Thank You Mr. Kovell

Let me add to what Brandi (my wife) shared with you.

This is where it all begins...... A briefcase was purchased at an estate sale for $35. Inside this brief case were several pictures of Dow Harter and various politicians. There is even a picture of President Roosevelt in a private meeting with what seems to be cabinet members, with his legs very much exposed. Then the briefcase takes a twist and goes all the way back to the civil war. There are authentic letters from various men while fighting in the Civil War. I think these letters might have been from an ancester of Dow W. Harter. I also think Dow had a relative that wrote for the Union Flag newspaper during the Civil War. There are several original copies of the paper in the briefcase that also include Vol1 No1 dated July 4th, 1864. Get this..... Not only is there an original paper... It's got a copy of the transcripts with " for Abraham Lincoln" on the cover page.

I'm looking for someone that might be interested in owning a little piece of history. I can be reached daileyfamilyof5@gmail.com

Eleanor Roosevelt

If you have invitations authentically signed by Eleanor Roosevelt as First Lady they are worth in the neighborhood of $500. These might have been the work of secretaries though.
