Huckabee was in Birmingham on November 22 for a book signing to promote his new book A Simple Christmas,. Sarah Palin was scheduled for a book signing at the same location, Books-A-Million at Brookwood Village, the next day. ![]() My wife and I got our wristbands for the next day's Sarah Palin signing, found a quick lunch and then got in line for Huckabee. The signing for Sarah Palin received a lot of media attention beyond the usual advertising. Many people in line for Palin weren't even aware that Huckabee would be signing just a few hours later. Birmingham was just one stop on a three week, sixty-four city tour. Huckabee rides a customized luxury tour bus from town to town, but as he said in an interview with the Birmingham News, "Campaigning is a piece of cake compared to this. I have to sometimes ask somebody, 'Where are we right now?' The travel is brutal. I feel more like a hostage than an author on tour. Sometimes I just want to say 'Get me off this bus." The Huckabee bus is "wrapped" with the cover of his new book. It was parked in front of Books-A-Million while he was signing. ![]() Kathy in the signing line with our books. ![]() Huckabee was friendly, and it is easy to see why he is so popular. A Simple Christmas is his seventh book, and he has decided that he'd rather get to everybody with a ticket than spend a lot of time with a few people. He signed for about four hundred people, most with two books, in one hour. ![]() Huckabee says that A Simple Christmas is his favorite of the seven that he has written. It is a collection of twelve true stories from his life. ![]() Today, a Mike Huckabee hardcover signed book is worth about $35. If he does make it to president that $35 will be a good investment. Many people at the Birmingham signing were hoping Huckabee would run again. Many were wishing for a Huckabee-Palin ticket, with either at the top.
