Marlene Dietrich Letter, 1945

Marlene Dietrich Letter, 1945

A local woman brought this letter to us to see if it has any value, so I am writing to you to see what you think. She got this lettter from a friend who was living in California. The friend found it in a box of papers purchased at a estate sale. The letter is written by Marlene Dietrich and addressed to Charles Harford of the Roxie Theater. It concerns a meeting for the Red Cross.

The letter looks real. The type is slightly raised on the paper such as a typewriter would have made. The paper looks and feels old.
I am attaching a picture of this letter for you to see and read. Thanks for your time!

Marlene Dietrich Signed Letter
by: Bill

Marlene Dietrich was born in Berlin, but she was working in Hollywood for Paramount when the Nazis took power in Germany. She remained in the United States for the duration of Word War II. She not only sympathized with the Allies, she performed for them at the war front and worked with the Red Cross.

If your letter has an authentic, original signature, it is worth about $150 to an autograph collector. It might bring more from someone interested in that period in history.

Thank you!
by: Shirley

Thanks Bill for your response. I really feel like this is the real thing. It has all the appearance of a document of that age. I have never seen Marlene Dietrich's signature so I had nothing to compare to. At least I will be able to give Eve a tentative value. I really appreciate your help and your reply! Sincerely, Shirley

Dietrich
by: Mister Hepburn

Just wanted to make a correction: Dietrich actually toured overseas for the USO in '44 and '45 in spite of the obvious dangers (Hitler would have loved to have her in his clutches).

And yes, the signature is most definitely Marlene's; quite a find!

Letters from Stars

Too bad we can't read the text of Marlene's letter as it's a very small scanned image. It would be wonderful if her letters were in a digital archive as Joan Crawford's are.

Long gone are the days of eloquent, thoughtful letter writing, lost to texts and emails

It's wonderful to see how truly great these letters are written.
