Lyndon B. Johnson Certificate and Letter

by Raymond H. Vogt
(Harrisburg, PA USA)

At the age of 17, my father was on a flight back from boot camp. The plane crashed, due to the pilot having a heart condition that was known by the airline, but ignored. The pilot had a heart attack and crashed into the side of a mountain, killing the 87 people on the plane. 81 were army recruits.

I have two letters signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. One is a certificate, honoring one of the privates that was killed in the crash, and the other is a letter from the White House, to my mother dated May 10, 1966, stating that Lyndon B. Johnson and his wife extends their sympathy in the loss of her husband. Could you please let me know the approximate value of these documents?

LBJ Certificate and Letter
by: Bill

If LBJ authentically signed them, the certificate and the letter are worth $1000 each. Sitting presidents did not normally sign routine correspondence, but they often did sign material of the type you have.
