Louis Armstrong Signed Ticket

by Tom Leonardo
(Fort Myers, FL)

On December 21, 1962, as a sailor stationed at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Hospital, I attended an Ed Sullivan Show on the Naval Base, and one of the performers was Louis Armstrong. After the show I met Satchmo, and he signed the back of my ticket. I haven't thought about this for many years, but at a friend's home for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, our military service experiences came up in conversation, and I thought about that show that I attended so long ago.

I am wondering at what my autographed ticket might be worth since it was a one of a kind event meant to entertain service members serving on Gitmo shortly after the Cuban Crisis.

Louis Armstrong Autograph
by: Bill

Louis Armstrong was one of the greatest musical performers of the twentieth century and his music is still popular today. His voice is instantly recognizable.

You have a nice piece of memorabilia and a good souvenir of your military service.

If it were mine, I'd pull it out of the closet, buy a good photo and have them framed together. A good period photo in a nice frame would not only add value, it would be a good conversation piece. Be sure to make notes detailing the circumstances behind the autograph.

A simple Louis Armstrong signature retails for about $150. The ticket might add another $50.

A photo or program signed By Louis Armstrong retails for $500+.

Louis Armstrong often, but not always, signed in green ink.
