Michael "Mike" Jackson 12-7-1972

When a sophomore in High School, I attended a Kiwanis Convention in Washington, D.C. as one of the representatives of the "Key Club" organization from Mather High School in Chicago, IL.

We stayed at The Washington Hilton. While in the game room at the hotel, Michael, Marlon, and Randy Jackson came in to the game room and played bumper pool with me and several of my classmates. I believe it was the evening of Thursday, December 7th, the night before they performed at Constitution Hall in Washington. We didn't realize that The Jackson 5 was staying there until they walked into the room!

I have signatures from Mike (that is how he signed it) Jackson, Marlon (signed only first name), and Randy Jackson on a piece of The Washington Hilton note paper. Randy was not even performing with them at that point. I think he was 11 years old at the time.

I am curious to know what these autographs are worth!

Jackson 5 Autographs
by: Bill

That's a nice story. I am confused whether you said Michael signed it "Mike" or "Mike Jackson." It's going to be worth a lot more if he signed his entire name. Most of the autographs that come on the market are signed "Michael Jackson." It could be that since you were both kids, he signed it that way.

Prices still haven't settled enough on MJ autographs to determine a realistic value. A signature from that period of his life should be worth at least $100. The autographs of Randy and Marlon are inexpensive - less that $25 each.

Michael was usually friendly to autograph collectors. He appreciated his fans and understood the hobby. He actually collected
autographs of child stars and legendary performers.

It has been estimated that he signed over 100,000 autographs during his career. Demand exceeds supply, mainly because he was such a huge star, but partly because, like yours, so many have personal stories behind them and the owners will not part from them. It wouldn't be something that I would sell, unless I was offered crazy money.

International Key Club Convention
by: Pete Peterson

Dave,

Cool. I was at same function at the Washington Hilton and even have photographs of me taken at the very spot that President Reagan was later shot.

I believe it was later in the year (May or June). It was very hot and there was a gospel thing going on at the plaza between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

There was a rumor during the convention that the Jackson 5 were going to play but all we got was Miss America and the guy who pretended to be a Russian and was booed off the stage and then came back on stage and told everyone he was really an American and we should learn to be respectful and give people the opportunity to speak, even if their views differed from our own.

I, unbelievably, entered an elevator one late morning and Michael Jackson was on it, all alone, wearing a brown leather beret. I didn't say anything and neither did he. Later that day I was in the game room and also got autographs from Michael and 2 or 3 of his brothers. I remember their father telling them they had to get going (to CT I think) and they called him by his first name. I also played a Jackson song on the juke box and when it came on Michael leaned over to his brother and whispered something in his ear and then they both quietly chuckled. It was a very cool day on a great, once in a lifetime trip. I gave the autographs to my sister and don't know whether she still has them. Write me: "pslaw10@aol.com"
