Jack Dempsey Autograph from Personal Meeting

by Pat Flanagan
(Flushing, Michigan)

I worked in National Advertising for the Flint Journal in Flint Michigan back in 1961. There was a national grocery store that was about to open up. They brought in Jack Dempsey to greet customers. I was there that day and had the chance to meet Mr. Dempsey. The thing that I remember most was that he had a double row of knuckles on each hand. When I shook his hand I noticed it was huge, and I have a large hand.

I remember he was a really nice guy and very easy to talk with. He was kind enough to sign and personalize an autograph for me.

I would like to sell this. Make me an offer.

Get any answers on what your autograph is worth?

I was looking through my father's things and found a very similar autograph. Only thing I know is that my Grandfather was a ring doctor in the 40s. The autograph is addressed to my father. I suspect that somehow Dempsey visited the ring and my Grandfather got the autograph for my Dad.

What a great story and a wonderful memory to be
able to share. It's not everyday that you shake
the hand of a world champ.
