J Edgar Hoover Signed Letter

by Ronn DuRand

My mother went to a small country school in North Dakota. As a sophomore in 1937, she wrote to J. Edgar Hoover and received a reply. It was written on December 9, 1937, and has his signature on the letter, which appears to have all the proper looking documentation. Can this be a possible authentic signature and possibly have any value?

J Edgar Hoover Signed Letter
by: Bil

Yes, it could be authentic. J Edgar Hoover was a prolific letter writer. He spent a portion of every day answering mail and signing it himself. Hoover was a very good politician, who enjoyed meeting and corresponding with average Americans. He was able to keep his job as long as he did, working under so many presidents, because he was popular with the American people (plus he knew things that elected officials had rather not be shared).

A typed, signed letter with average, routine content is worth $75 - $100. If he mentioned organized crime or something equally interesting, it could be worth a lot more.
