Hoover Letter
by Ms. Thalia C. Jennings
(Galax, VA)
I have a letter written to my mother from Mr. Hoover on the occasion of her marriage in December 1950. She worked at the FBI and he was sending his congratulations. It is signed in blue ink.
My mom worked for the FBI. She went to Washington from Wisconsin - therefore she had no family or support system in the area while employed out there.
She said J. Edgar Hoover always took the stairs, never the elevator. Of course he was always accompanied by his security team.
She said that on one occasion she passed Mr. Hoover in the stairwell when she was sick and having just received an immunization (a shot). She said Mr. Hoover took the time to stop and talk with her - ask where she works, etc. He was very kind to my mom.
This brief encounter led to the acquisition of 2 signed copies of "Masters of Deceit."
