Hollywood Autographs - 1950s

I have an old autograph book from the 1950s that belonged to my wife's great-aunt. She apparently worked in a motel somewhere in Hollywood. A few of the signatures have been traced over again in pen so they are probably worthless, but there are a few good ones that have not been tampered with. Some of the autographs are Doris Day, Carol Burnett, Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando, Robert Taylor, and Michael Landon.

If you have authentic autographs, you have some valuable ones.

Marlon Brando didn't like signing. He was pretty consistent about refusing, and in his later years he was reclusive. A signature is worth $300.

Elvis is another valuable one. Elvis was fan-friendly. Early in his career it was pretty easy to get an Elvis autograph, but once he hit big, it was very difficult. Dying at 42 didn't help the supply of Elvis autographs either. An Elvis signature is worth $1500.

Doris Day was the biggest female movie star of her time, and she might well be the biggest female star of all time. She has always been friendly to autograph collectors and even signs through the mail. Her signature is worth $25.

Carol Burnett is another $25 signature. The Carol Burnett Show had an eleven year run and won 25 Emmys.

Robert Taylor was a huge movie star in the 1940s and 1950s. In the late 1960s, he took over as host of the TV show Death Valley Days from Ronald Reagan. His signature is worth $35.

Michael Landon was one of the stars of Bonanza, the most collectible of TV westerns. He went on to produce and star in Little House on the Prairie and Highway to Heaven. He died at the young age of 54. His signature is worth $100, and values are rising.
