Hilton Head Celebrity Golf Tournament Print with 20 Autographs including Neil Armstrong

by Vicki Shivers
(Hilton Head, SC)

I live on Hilton Head Island in SC. Each year the island holds a celebrity golf tournament which draws many famous folks to our beautiful island.

Each year the tournament is commemorated with a painting. I came across the 1986 painting, actually a reprint of the painting, which I believe was done by Curly Neal of the Harlem Globetrotters. It is framed and matted and the matting has original signatures of about 20 of the players for that year's tournament including: Curly Neal, Leslie Nielson, Gale Sayers, Neil Armstrong, Willie Mosconi, Spanky McFarland and several others.

Some of the names were not legible due to the writing of the folks, but we looked on the Celebrity Golf Tournaments web site ( www.hhcelebritygolf.com)and were able to look at the list of participants and compare the signatures to those we found online and we were shocked to find that Neil Armstrong had indeed played the tournament that year and had signed the print.

We would love to find more info about this "find" and need to get it authenticated and appraised so that I can sell it. Any suggestions in the Hilton Head, SC area?

Hilton Head Autographs
by: Bill

Those was estimates for the autographs. As I said, the only way to find out what the piece is worth is to offer it for sale. It is certainly a nice item.

Genuine Autographs
by: Anonymous

Yes, I am totally positive they are original autographs. I collect paintings of all sorts and I know the difference between an original and a printed run.

All signatures are genuine and original. I have talked to the Celebrity Golf Tournament and all of the celebrities that signed the print were certified to be here the tournament recognized the autographs as original.

Just need to get it authenticated and appraised and I am good to go!

Saw one for the next year, 1987, for sale for $9000, so I am thinking the estimate of $1000 may be very very low.

Thanks for your help.

Neil Armstrong Signed Golf Tournament Poster
by: Bill

The Neil Armstrong autograph, if it is authentic, is worth as much as $1000. The other autographs that you listed are worth $15 - $35. All of them together on the mat, that could only be determined by offering it for sale. It could be that it would have more value for someone who lives or vacations at Hilton Head than it would for an autograph collector.

Are you sure that those are original autographs and not just one piece of a print run? If they aren't original, it isn't worth anything as an autographed piece.

I do not know of any authenticators near Hilton Head.
