The most-famous line in “Gone With the Wind” – the epic film based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell – is “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

Frankly, I give a damn about the movie and the vast assortment of Gone with the Wind collectibles. This is arguably the best movie of all American film, produced in 1939, the year acknowledged as the finest in film history.

The film tells so many stories that resonate with people: from great love affairs, to petulant debutantes, to the pre-Civil War lifestyle of the South, to the devastation of war. Everything Vivien Leigh (“Scarlett O’Hara”) did has been discussed for decades. Clark Gable (“Rhett Butler”) was the man every woman wanted. The O’Hara home, Tara, still represents the finest in Colonial mansions and the ultimate in a home. Its staircase is even duplicated in the currently-most-lavish home in the U.S., Spelling Manor.

Everything to do with GONE WITH THE WIND is epic. As famous as “Tara” is, even the Atlanta home where Mitchell wrote the novel is a tourist attraction. The scene with the burning of Atlanta in the film is movie-making and special effects lore.

The novel, DVDs of the movie, the film’s amazing soundtrack still make perfect gifts for every generation. Girls grew up with collectibles, such as dolls representing various characters in the film, complete with formal Southern gowns and matching hats. In recent years, commemorative film cells – strips with scenes from the film – have increased in popularity, along with photos of actual scenes, certified as authentic. Fortunately, there have been so many anniversaries and milestones for GONE WITH THE WIND that collectors are able to choose from a variety of cells and plaques. The same goes with still photos of the film’s stars, which bring back the dialog and story. Handsome and suave Rhett, pouty Scarlett and scenes from devastated Atlanta are among the official production stills that Warner Bros. made available to collectors.

Passion, love, and romance have never been so perfectly captured. Thanks to the fans’ love of the story, we have many ways to re-live the story.... Olivia, Charlotte, NC.
