Gene Krupa Writes to Buddy Rich

by Victor Ozeri
(new york city)

I recently acquired a framed photo of Gene Krupa, the drummer. The inscription is to Buddy Rich, the famous orchestra conductor of the day. It reads:

"To Buddy, who conducts his orchestra with the ease he makes friends, Wish you every success Buddy, You deserve it...

Signed Gene Krupa 7/24/35"

The handwriting is excellent and very clear.

Can you tell me what this might be worth?

Gene Krupa
by: Bill

Both Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa were orchestra leaders at various times in the careers. Both of them were drummers - in fact, they were the two most famous drummers of their time.

They had a mutual admiration for one another. There is a drum battle on YouTube that is worth watching.

The typical Gene Krupa autographed photo is worth $150. Yours, if its authentic, is worth more than that. How much could only be determined by who sees it when it is put up for sale.
