Charles Atlas First day Cover

I have several autographs that I picked up an estate sale a few years back. The one that I wonder the most about is a First Day Cover, dated Feb 15, 1975. It is signed "Yours for Physical Reflection, Charles Atlas." It has a 5 cent stamp on it. It's in great condition.

Charles Atlas Autograph
by: Bill

Charles Atlas was born Angelo Siciliano in 1892. He legally changed his name. Anybody who read comic books back from the 1940's - 1970's remembers the Charles Atlas ads for his Dynamic Tension mail order courses. Many of the ads were cartoons showing bullies kicking sand on a "97 lb weakling." After taking the Atlas course the "97 lb weakling got his revenge." Those ads made Charles Atlas a millionaire and a household name. The name Charles Atlas was synonymous with strength, and still is to a certain extent.

Charles Atlas died in 1972, but Charles Atlas ads are still running. There's even a Charles Atlas website where you can order the same material that was sold more than fifty years ago. If you want to see the original cartoon ads, they are on the website.

Atlas was a mail-order pioneer and a twentieth century pop culture icon.

Atlas made thousands of personal appearances and signed tens of thousands of autographs. Time has increased the value of his autograph. Many have been thrown away or found their way to permanent collections.

A Charles autograph retails for about $50. With the inscription this one should should retail in the $75 range.
