Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Autographs

by Barry
(Central Scotland)

I have many autographs from the 1930s and 1940s that were obtained personally by my Mum and her sister. My grandfather's friend was stage manager at the Theatre Royal, Hope St, Glasgow and they were often taken back stage to meet the performers.

I have two sets of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello autographs, one obtained by my mum and the other by her sister. I am wondering what the value is likely to be.

I also have a signed photo of Dave Willis plus many other celebrities of the period. I would welcome advice. I took a photo of a Laurel and Hardy autograph that I sold recently and attached it. I have another similar autograph, and it is not made out to my mum "Irene".

Abbott and Costello and Laurel and Hardy Autographs

You have some nice autographs. I hope that you didn't sell the Laurel and Hardy autograph too cheap. They are legendary performers who have stood the test of time. Films like Sons of the Desert (1933) and Way Out West (1937) that show up on classic TV movie channels will insure that they will never be forgotten.

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy Autograph Values:

Signatures on Same Card or Paper: $600 - $700
Signatures on Same Photo: $1200 - $1500

Abbott and Costello were one of the most successful show business acts of the 1940s and 1950s. They were especially popular during World War II when people in Britain and America wanted to get their mind off their worries. No doubt the "Who's on First" routine comes first to most people's mind when they think of Abbott and Costello. That routine is why Abbott and Costello are featured in National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.
