Bob Hope Signed Card

by John Talson

I have a Bob Hope signed postcard that I've had as long that I can remember where I got it. It is a actual postcard - says so on the back. At one time it had been mounted in an album because I can still see some felt on the back. It was inscribed "To Steve, My Best Wishes, Bob Hope." It is in very good condition other than the felt.

Bob Hope was one of the biggest names in show business from the 1940's to the 1960's, appearing on TV and radio and in movies. He was the master of the one-liner. Hope made appearances until the 1990's, and continued to win respect from both the public and the entertainment industry.

By the time he died on July 27, 2003, at the age of 100, he had long ago became a show business legend.

The Guinness Book of World Records lists Bob Hope as the entertainer with the "longest-running contract with a single network." Guinness also lists him as "the world's most decorated and honored man in entertainment."

Between 1948 and 1972 he led 22 USO tours. He was awarded distinguished service awards from every branch of the armed forces.

He hosted the Academy Awards 15 times, a record. He starred in 50 movies, including 7 "Road" movies with Bing Crosby. NBC TV's "Bob Hope Specials, 300 of them, were always ratings hits.

This says more about the man than anything else, "I think a long time before using a joke that's on the borderline of hurting someone." (1975)

Since his death in 2003, autographed material has escalated in price. It will probably continue to rise in value.

He was very nice to fans and he was a friendly signer when approached in public. He employed secretaries to sign much of his fan mail during his peak years. There are are also preprints that can confuse a buyer.

You have an autographed card signed early in his career. It would retail for about $150.
