Bing Crosby Letter

by Bob Nirdlinger

I have a letter from Bing Crosby's Hollywood office dated Sept. 15th, 1945. In the letter he states that he cannot send the woman an autographed picture because of the paper shortage caused by the war. I think it probably has some historic value due to the content of the letter. It is signed Bing at the bottom. I also have the postmarked and dated envelope it came in. Please let me know if you think it has any value.

Bing Crosby Letter Signed "Bing"
by: Bill

When this letter went out, Bing Crosby was one of the biggest names in entertainment and probably the most popular celebrity in the country.

That is not an authentic autograph on the letter - it was printed with the rest of the letter. They were mailed out by the thousands to autograph collectors. A relatively small percentage have survived to this day, but the numbers are still great enough to keep values low.

An item like this might find a buyer on the internet, but the price that it would bring is going to be low - probably less than $10.

I used to see these letters often on eBay. The first few years after eBay came on the scene, items like this would almost always find a buyer. As time progressed, eBay shoppers found that a lot of things that they thought to be rare, actually aren't. Sellers got more picky about what they listed, because buyers got more selective about what they bought.

Regardless, your letter is a nice collectible.
