A Beatles Autograph

The Beatles were a British rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. By the time that Paul announced to the world on April 10th, 1970, that the Beatles would never make music as a group again, they had became the most commercially successful and widely acclaimed act in the history of music. The members of the band were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. (Bet you already knew that!)

Released in March 1963, their first album reached number one on the British chart. This began a run where eleven of the Beatles twelve albums released in the UK ended up being number one. They then started negotiating for the release of their singles in the United States. American chart success came suddenly after a news broadcast about British Beatlemania triggered massive demand, leading Capitol to release “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1963.

When they came to America, an estimated three thousand people were there waiting. Their first live US television performance was two days later on The Ed Sullivan Show. The impact of that the Beatles had on popular culture can't not be overestimated.

Let It Be was the band’s final album release. Much of the album’s content came from studio work, many hours of which were captured on film. Martin was quoted saying that these rehearsals were not a happy experience and the relationships between the band members were suffering. The final live performance was filmed on the rooftop of the Apple Corps building at 3 Savile Row, London, on January 30, 1969. Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr all released solo albums in 1970. The Beatles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

The Beatles signed a great many autographs while they were together, mostly before Beatlemania hit. An even greater amount of secretarials and outright forgeries are in the marketplace. Authentic Beatles autographs are blue chip collectibles that become more valuable with each passing year.
