8 Wrestling autographs from 1950s - want to sell

by Tony B.
(Three Oaks , MI )

I won an auction awhile back and the items were 3 official wrestling calendars. All 3 were from the 1950s. Title on each is Wrestling Stars Calendar - Official Wrestling Calendar for (year). One of them is the 1956 Calendar, and it was hand signed by 8 star wrestlers of that era. The front cover has a picture of Antonino Rocca and inside has a two month calendar with a large wrestling star action photo. All of these autographs are inscribed with the words: "TO A VALUED FRIEND" and then the hand signed autographs follow. The signatures exactly as signed are: Antonino Rocca, Verne Gagne, Whipper Watson, Don Leo Jonathan, Pat O'Connor, Art Neilson & Reggie Lisowski (on the same page with their photo), and Roy McClarity. All of the autographs and inscription are in the Near Mint-plus range or better.

I want to sell the autographed calendar. If anyone is interested, let me know. Would appreciate any help out there on the possible value of this item. I am not looking for top dollar here - just want to move it fast but don't want to just give it away. Thanks for reading this. MY email is : tony_italian44@yahoo.com.

Just found this site - it's dynamite!

Wrestling Autographs on Calendar
by: Bill

If your calendars are the "full pages for a wrestler and a calendar month," in nice condition they are worth in the neighborhood of $50 each without autographs.

Autograph Values for Signed Photos:

Antonino Rocca - $100
Verne Gagne - $25
Whipper Watson - $75
Don Leo Jonathan - $50
Reggie Lisowski (who later became better known as "the Crusher) - $50
Pat O'Connor - $25
Art Neilson - $20
Roy McClarity - $10

Before you get too excited about those prices, realize that those estimates are for signed photos. There aren't any comparables for your signed calendar, so it really depends on who sees it when you put it up for sale.

It is a rare item. You might have the only one in the world with those eight autographs. There aren't a lot of vintage wrestling collectors, but the ones who do collect it are serious about the hobby.

The best place to find those collectors is eBay.

Looking for stolen program
by: Susan

In the mid 50's my great aunt was a huge wrestling fan. She attended matches at the old Atlanta Auditorium in Atlanta, Ga. One evening she brought home a program autographed by Ray Gunkel and Georgeous George. I kept the program until the late 1980's and I believe my ex-husband took it and sold it somewhere in Douglasville Georgia or used it to pay a gambling debt. It was in black and white, about the size of a letter sheet of paper that folded tri-ways. Each tri had a photo of the wrestler and the autograph signed on it. It was on a glossy thicker type of paper. I had folded it in half. If you or any other collector know of this program please contact me. She was my favorite Aunt and I would like to have the program back.
Respectfully,
