2000 John Updike Checks

by Paul

John Updike was doing a house cleaning and putting out LOTS of valuable collectibles. It was all put curbside so I put them in my car. The checks span his entire career. (1958-2004). They are in mint condition. I called a large autograph dealer in 2005 and asked for a price. He said they would offer me 2000 dollars. I kept them. Would Sotheby's be an alternative?

John Updike signed Checks
by: Bill

Wow, what a great find. 2000 John Updike signed checks. I would not sell them for $2000 total. If they were mine, I would break them down into much smaller lots and dribble them into the marketplace. A dealer would either do that or try to make a quick flip to another dealer.

Signed bank checks sell well on eBay. You could probably make money for quite awhile by listing them one at a time there.

Sotheby's might be an alternative, but you might get just as much by giving them less (maybe half?) There is no definitive answer.

I would look closely at each check, looking for famous names. You could have valuable signatures on the back of some of them.

Each check should retail for about $25. If too many enter the marketplace at one time, that figure would drop dramatically for quite some time.
