1940's Silver Screen Stars

This little 3x.5 index card was quite a find recently at a tag sale on LI (in New Hyde Park, NY)

I immediately noticed the name Fanny Brice and then researched the other names on the card (front and back). They are:

*Fanny Brice (the movie Funny Girl starring Barbra Streisand was about her)
*Bette Davis - Oscar Winner!
*Victor Moore
*Russell Simpson
*Mary Lansing
*Ida Lupino
*Helene Reynolds
*Geraldine Fitzgerald
*Harry Lang
*John Beal
*Olivia de Havilland - Oscar Winner! Still alive too! Last living cast member of Gone with the Wind...

At the top of the card it is stamped "Construction Battalion No. 25". This was a group called SeaBees. Their motto was "We Build, We Fight"

John Wayne starred in a movie called "The Fighting Seabees" in 1944

I purchased other military items at this tag sale and therefore I think that this card was signed by all of this actors when they were performing overseas for the soldiers. Perhaps each soldier got a card and asked for the signatures on their own.....or maybe they got the cards already signed.

Hopefully this info helps. I wish I knew more. All I can say is that this is obviously an authentic card. Check my feedback....if I thought it wasn't I would not be selling it. You can see that I have a military bracelet up for sale right now too....

There is no doubt that all of those autographs are authentic. I am not sure if all of those stars performed overseas, but I think it is likely that they all performed at the Hollywood Canteen, where this card was possibly signed. Bette Davis was one of the forces behind the creation of the Canteen. She and Ida Lupino were in the movie "Hollywood Canteen." Run a search in the top right corner and you will find out more about Hollywood Canteen. That is a nice find.
